Kate Prior Everitt, 79, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 surrounded by her family.

Kaysie was born on April 15, 1941, the daughter of Kate Maddock Prior and James Roger Prior.  She and her sister, Lynn Prior Harrington, were raised in Trenton, NJ.  She attended The George School where she met the love of her life, Samuel Agar Everitt.  She later graduated from Colby Sawyer Jr. College and married Sambo in October 1962.

Kaysie and Sambo lived in Mahwah, NJ and then settled in Wilton, CT where they raised their two children, James Raymond Everitt and Kate Everitt Denious.  In Wilton, Kaysie taught nursery school for 20 years, played many paddle tennis games and became an avid bridge player.  She and Sambo spent their retirement years in Savannah, GA on Skidaway Island where she honed her golf skills, enjoyed walking her dog, and loved spending time with her neighbors and many friends. She also dabbled in all types of arts and crafts.

Kaysie and Sambo spent their summers in Bay Head, NJ, the place she cherished the most. Never one for rest, her perfect day would include a morning tennis game and some gardening with her sister, Lynn, followed by 18 holes of afternoon golf. It would conclude with a Mount Gay and OJ up on the dune at sunset surrounded by family and friends.

Anyone who was lucky enough to know Kaysie knew that she was the true embodiment of strength, grace, and selflessness. She was most fulfilled by creating fun for those around her. We will all miss her competitive spirit and drive to “press on regardless.”

Kaysie was predeceased by her husband, Sambo. In addition to her two children, Jamie (Leigh Kelleher Everitt) and Katie (Peter Lockwood Denious), Kaysie leaves behind her 7 grandchildren, George, Henry, James and William Everitt, and Eliza, Peter and Grace Denious.

The family is planning a celebration of her life in Bay Head, NJ in the early summer.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Kaysie’s memory to Bethesda Academy, Savannah, GA, or Save Barnegat Bay.
